ALL the trouble and suffering of the human race is due to misunderstanding. Every discord it experiences is directly traceable to lack of understanding that God, good, is All-in-all; that Spirit is the only substance of creation, and the divine Mind the only real Mind. Hence all inharmony, whether of sickness, sin, estrangement, poverty, or moodiness, can always be destroyed through the application of spiritual understanding to the specific trouble, which is in every case a mental experience and in every case remediable.
One who would be lifted above discord through Christian Science must be teachable. He must be willing to admit, in the main, his ignorance of spiritual facts, and he must learn how to seek Truth eagerly and obey its demands joyfully. Should he be unprepared to do this, he would be like someone who hurts himself in the dark while groping for the light, yet refuses to allow the bandage over his eyes to be removed.
What is it that mortals need to understand in order to correct their various misunderstandings regarding health, prosperity, gladness, safety, and also regarding their relations with one another? Just one thing: they need to know the truth about God and His likeness, the truth about the perfection of the spiritual creation, and so exchange doubt for demonstration. Spiritual knowledge alone holds the solution to humanity's distressing problems, for materialism cannot heal its own ills.
