Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

With sincere gratitude to God I...

From the March 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With sincere gratitude to God I can testify to a healing which I experienced in Christian Science. Several years ago I had heard of the blessings of this Science through some people I know well. I had also begun to attend the church services. But conditions arose which prevented me from attending the Wednesday evening meetings, and so I stayed away and thought that I could begin to take interest again if it should ever be necessary. This necessity arose in a very short time. In the winter of 1921–22 I could not get rid of a cough; and when it grew worse and I was examined by a physician, he diagnosed the trouble as a bad case of catarrh of the lungs. For a week I followed the doctor's prescriptions without feeling any better. It became clear to me that the time had arrived for me to turn to Christian Science. I asked for treatment, and as the fever soon disappeared I got up and went out, to the astonishment of my friends. The cough went away very slowly, and there were relapses, so that I was quite hoarse for several weeks, and fear and doubt seemed to retain the upper hand. I often thought of Jesus' disciples, who were admonished because of their little faith. Through earnestly studying the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and other Christian Science literature, and, above all, through the loving help the Christian Science practitioner gave me, I was able to cling to the thought that divine Love possesses all power, and that God leads us if we wait patiently upon Him and honestly seek the truth. Thus I gradually lost the cough, and to-day am quite well. My voice, which before my sickness had always been somewhat harsh and hoarse, was much softer after I had had treatment.

I thank God with all my heart for this proof of His love, and that He revealed this religion of Truth to us through Mrs. Eddy. My gratitude can be best expressed in the words of the Psalmist, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."—
