I wish to express gratitude to God for giving to this age our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." It was through reading this textbook that I was freed from faith in the power of matter to heal, having been a slave to drugs since early childhood. Through this reading I was healed instantaneously of an ailment which a physician had failed even to diagnose, and for which he said he could do nothing.
Since birth I had never been quite free from some ailment, and as years went by I seemed to grow worse. I had been under the surgeon's knife three times. In early childhood my dear father taught me the Scriptures, but after years of continual suffering I thought God had forsaken me. Since learning "the way," as taught in Christian Science, however, I have found that in my ignorance concerning God I was acknowledging a power apart from Him, and thereby breaking the First Commandment of the Decalogue, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Through the study and application of Christian Science I have been enabled to lay off glasses which I had worn for over twenty years, and which, according to the diagnosis of several eye specialists, I should always be obliged to wear.
I wish to express my gratitude to those dear ones who have helped me to know more about God. As our Leader writes in Science and Health (Pref., p. vii), "The only guarantee of obedience is a right apprehension of Him whom to know aright is Life eternal."— Chicago, Illinois.
