Testimonies of Healing

I wish to testify to the many...

From the June 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to testify to the many blessings I have received since studying Christian Science. For many years I was an invalid, and I had been told by doctors that the only thing which could put me right was an operation. I underwent the operation, which was considered by doctors one of the most serious a woman can undergo, and I recovered to find myself so weak that it was six months before I could walk upright, and then I was almost always in pain and unable to do much. I had not found any comfort in religion, and stopped attending church, hoping that, when it was God's will, I would be well. At this stage a friend asked me if I knew anything about Christian Science, and suggested my attending the meetings held in Simla. I went, and shortly afterward was lent "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had barely started reading when I felt this was the truth, and a great sense of peace came to me. I continued studying, and in a short time was able to overcome the hitherto almost constant pain. I was able to walk and do my housework without fatigue.

The Bible has become a new book to me in the light of Christian Science, and I feel I cannot devote too much time to its study; whereas before, it had lain untouched for many years. When unable to help myself, a Christian Science practitioner has lovingly treated me, and I have had a healing of rheumatism of the head, neck, and shoulders. Not only was I healed of the disease, but also of a belief in heredity; and I never fail to thank God for this latter healing. I cannot describe the spiritual uplifting I experienced, and still experience, each time error is conquered.

I will give just one more instance of healing. My son, an only child, was supposed to have incipient tuberculosis and a strained heart. He was always ailing, and I was in a constant state of fear about him. Almost as soon as I started studying Christian Science, I had a long talk with a practitioner, telling her of the various things the doctors had said were wrong with my child; and I shall never forget her fervent affirmation of the truth that the real spiritual selfhood of the child was God's perfect idea. Though I knew hardly anything of Science then, I felt it was true; and the child was healed then and there. People who see him now are surprised at the change in the boy, who has grown tall and strong in the knowledge that he is God's child.
