Testimonies of Healing

It would take too long to enumerate...

From the September 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It would take too long to enumerate all the blessings which I have received since I commenced the study of Christian Science. Although I did not take it up for physical healing for myself, the first time I read our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I had an instantaneous healing of chronic sore throat, from which I had suffered since childhood. Before looking into Christian Science I was a great sufferer for over twenty years with acute dyspepsia, and had tried physicians and specialists all over the world, but they had not been able to heal me, although many of them had afforded me relief for the time being. This trouble also disappeared through reading and studying the textbook and other writings of Mrs. Eddy.

Over four years ago, upon arising early one morning, I ran into the bathroom and jumped on the side of the bathtub to close the upper part of the window. In a moment I found myself in a heap on the floor. I had a bruise on my side as large as the palm of my hand, an abrasion on the shin several inches long, and what I thought was just a sprained ankle. The pain in the foot was intense. I went back to bed and worked as we are taught in Christian Science. In less than an hour I was up, dressed, and about my work as usual. The bruise and the abrasion were instantaneously healed, for there was no sign of them when I arose. I was obliged to go out a few hours later and was walking for two hours with an interval of five minutes while waiting for someone in an office. The foot remained much swollen for some time. Ten days later, when the swelling had subsided somewhat, in putting on my stocking, I ran my fingers along the side of my foot and found, as far as I could judge, where a bone had been broken and knitted together again—a case of mental surgery such as often takes place in Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 357), "We sustain Truth, not by accepting, but by rejecting a lie."

I have had many other proofs of the good we can demonstrate through the realization that God is omnipotent (all power and the only power), and that He is ever present. There is nothing to fear with divine Love to uphold us. I am grateful that Mrs. Eddy was so pure and led so consecrated a life that she was able to give us a better understanding of God and man's true relationship to Him.—
