MEEKNESS

From the September 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

SPIRITUAL progress in Christian Science is attained through self-knowledge, meekness, and love. Jesus proved that meekness is an important factor in this journey towards perfection, for he was the meekest man the world has ever known.

The spiritual leaders of all times have abundantly possessed this quality. It enabled Moses to talk with God, to record the Ten Commandments, and to lead the children of Israel out of bondage; while in our own time our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, meekly walked through a modern wilderness of unbelief and persecution to establish Christian Science.

That meekness is closely allied to might is proved by the great works which have been wrought by those who have humbly walked with God. Nor have these lacked ample provision for their human needs. Joseph, although he was early handicapped by being sold into slavery, meekly served his captors and ultimately became a mighty ruler in Egypt. Daniel, likewise, meekly forgiving his persecutors, prospered.
