I first turned to Christian Science with much uncertainty as to what it was; but when I left the practitioner's office after my first treatment and purchased "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was assured that I would understand. Like many another, after reading the chapter on Prayer I knew I had found what I wanted and needed, and began to appreciate this great revelation of God to man. That was many years ago; and my appreciation is growing and I am still being healed, healed of a belief in a self apart from God; for I rejoice in a better understanding of my Father-Mother God, and my relation to Him, in better health, and in greater love for my fellow man. I am learning to appreciate instead of criticize destructively.
I was healed of anæmia, numerous forms of nervousness, general weakness, and what I have since learned was a rupture. I was quite young at this time and did not know what the last-named trouble was, as I had spoken of it to no one. After my first treatment I discarded forever the pills which I thought were necessary nightly.
I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction by a loyal teacher, for three years' service at the sanatorium of The Christian Science Benevolent Association, and for all the other channels established by Mrs. Eddy, through which a better spiritual understanding is constantly to be gained. I have no words to express my reverence and gratitude to the Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and to Mrs. Eddy, for pointing out the way to eternal life. I wish also to express gratitude for friendships. Mrs. Eddy says (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 339), "Hast thou a friend, and forgettest to be grateful?" In innumerable instances and in all human experiences I have found Christian Science a great and practical help. For the precious Bible promises I am grateful beyond words. — Los Angeles, California.
