Testimonies of Healing

Since my childhood my father had...

From the November 1930 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since my childhood my father had expended much money for doctors and medicine in the hope that I might become strong and healthy. Eight years ago, while attending school in Boston, I was suffering from a slight curvature of the spine and was receiving treatments from an orthopedic specialist. At the same time a dear friend gave me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which I read eagerly as I was in search of permanent relief, being weary of all the material remedies which I had tried and found to give only temporary relief. I soon gave up the orthopedic treatments, realizing that I could not serve both God and mammon, and turned whole-heartedly to the study of Christian Science. Within a few months the spinal trouble disappeared, and at the end of a year I found that I was free from many of the discordant beliefs that I had always entertained; and from that time on I have not used any medicine. What a glorious freedom, to know that all the beliefs of mortal mind are unreal, and that there is but one infinite Mind! I have been healed of indigestion, constipation, fear of colds, fear of lack, and other false beliefs.

I think the best demonstration I have received of God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience was previous to and at the birth of our son. The following statement from Science and Health (p. 507) sustained and inspired me throughout the experience: "Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the mental molecule to infinity." And the paragraph on page 463 under the marginal heading "Scientific obstetrics," which I diligently studied, made me realize very plainly that there is but one primal cause. In accordance with state laws a doctor was present when our baby came, but God has been his only physician and he is a happy, healthy, loving child.

I am grateful not only for the physical healings I have experienced, but for the fact that Christian Science is a practical religion. As soon as I began to read the Christian Science textbook I knew that I had found a living, satisfying religion. My questions were answered, and I experienced that peace "which passeth all understanding."
