Since Christian Science first came to me through hearing the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, read aloud at home, and attendance at the Sunday school of a branch church, I have often asked myself the question, What do people do without Christian Science? In times of trial, instead of trusting blindly to an unknown God or petitioning a manlike Jehovah, the Christian Scientist has learned to apply the truth that God is the divine Principle, Life, Truth, and Love.
Through Christian Science treatment I have been healed of diphtheria overnight, and have had colds, headaches, and indigestion quickly disappear. In academic work there has always been the one all-knowing Mind on which to rely. In athletics and in my profession, which at times calls for strenuous activity, the knowledge of God as all-powerful has brought strength and endurance beyond measure. When inspiration seems my need, there is at hand the all-loving Father—divine Love—who "inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way" (Science and Health, p. 454). Seeing my fellow man as divine Love's image and reflection widens the scope of true friendship and helpfulness.
My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for giving us the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures is unbounded. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for having had the privilege of serving as an officer in the Sunday school where as a pupil I had learned the truths of Christian Science.— Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
