It is with a feeling of deep gratitude that I tell about a healing I had some time ago. I went from San Francisco to Holland to visit my children. After passing through the Panama Canal, we encountered some storms; and one day I was thrown from the top of the stairs, landing at the feet of a steward, who picked me up. My hand started to swell, and I had severe pains. Whether my wrist was broken or not we did not know, as there was no doctor on board. The head steward bandaged my arm; but two days later, hearing that my wrist was not broken, I took the bandages off and only kept my arm in a sling. I was fortunate enough to have a Christian Scientist sharing my cabin. I called her to me, and she faithfully prayed and read with me. She kept awake the whole of the first night, reading and praying. Immediately after my fall I was too much shocked and trembling to apply the truth right then and there, but after a while, although I could not think clearly, I could listen to and pray with her.
Three weeks after the accident, I arrived in Holland. On one of the first days there I met a friend who is a well-known doctor. He recommended that I let my son-in-law take an X-ray picture of my hand. I did so and the X-ray picture showed plainly that my wrist had been broken and was not yet completely healed. I wrote to a Christian Science practitioner in another town and asked her to help me. Within three days I could move my hand and arm more easily, and I asked for further treatment, which was lovingly given. After that I could do all I wanted to do with my arm. I could even carry a light suitcase in that hand. A month later I went to see my doctor friend again; and on my way to his house, I found I could close my fist entirely, which I had not been able to do before. My friend asked me how my hand was getting along and I told him it was all right. Then he tried my arm, bent it back and forth, and finally said, "It is a marvel, I must say."
My sincere gratitude goes out to God and to Mary Baker Eddy, who made it possible for me to get acquainted with Christian Science, and partake of the blessings it brings to all mankind.—(Mrs.)San Francisco, California.
