POSITION

From the October 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IN the world of human affairs a subject widely discussed is that of position. One says that he has a good position, another that he is changing his position, and still another that he has no position and is seeking one. The student of Christian Science, realizing that man's position is in Mind, rests secure upon the bed rock of truth, namely, the understanding of man's unity with God, good, through which he learns that man is never out of his one and only true position.

The word "position" is defined by Webster as "situation" and "station"; and "station" is a "place where . . . a person or thing habitually stands." Taking the metaphysical viewpoint, we understand that man's situation is a heavenly one, and the place on which he stands is the firm foundation of Spirit, God. Some of the stones of this foundation are abundance, peace, integrity, health, harmony, justice, wisdom, contentment, happiness, trust, good will. In His infinite wisdom and love God, divine Mind, places man in his true position, and nothing can ever remove him from this exalted unity. Being inseparable from God, man cannot possibly lack anything, for in this situation or position he already has all!

But, it may be asked, how does this affect the human sense of position? In her spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer as given in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 17), Mary Baker Eddy, the revered Leader of the Christian Science movement, writes after the petition, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven," the following words: "Enable us to know, —as in heaven, so on earth,—God is omnipotent, supreme." This gives sufficient reason for believing that our heavenly Father guards and guides all our affairs as we walk in the light of Truth through a vale of contradictory beliefs and fluctuating plans and hopes. The understanding of Mind's allness, which comes as the result of prayer and study, changes the sense of discord to fullest acceptance and demonstration of peace. When one is pondering the truth, his human footsteps must of necessity take him along a path where all his needs are met, including that of position.
