Testimonies of Healing

With gratitude I bear record to...

From the October 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With gratitude I bear record to the healing power of Christian Science. In times of great need the realization of true supply has always enabled me to demonstrate "our daily bread" for myself and others. A beautiful healing of my little grandchild proved once again the omnipresence of God, good. In September, 1928, the child, then one year old, fell out of bed. She cried a little when picked up, but seemed in no way hurt. The following morning her mother took her to the crèche, and for three days took her as usual. On the fourth day the matron of the crèche told the mother that the visiting doctor had seen the child and found an injury on her head and insisted that she should be taken to a doctor. The mother took her at once to the general hospital, which was near, and the house surgeon said with indignation: "How long has the child been like this? Do you know that the skull is fractured? Hasn't she been unconscious?" Three doctors examined the child, and all agreed that there was little hope of her recovery.

My daughter came home in great distress; and when we saw that she did not have the child with her we were very much alarmed. When she told us she had left the baby at the hospital and that the little one was seriously ill, we did not feel at the moment able to overcome the fear that was expressed. We sent a note to a friend who is a Christian Scientist. She came at once and opened the Bible at random, asking for a message. I looked over her shoulder and the first words I saw were these: "Is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well." Then quietly we read together the hymn by Mrs. Eddy, beginning, "O gentle presence" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 389; Poems, pp. 4, 5), and before she left us we were calm and comforted and able to go to rest.

The child was X-rayed and the plate revealed a fracture of the skull. She was kept in bed, but was so active that she could not be kept in the cot without being tied in. She was never sick or unconscious, and never had a bandage put on her or any surgical operation. Every mortal mind prophecy was reversed, and in the X-ray picture taken a month afterward there was no trace of fracture. The healing was brought about by mental surgery only.
