Each day I am increasingly grateful that I am living in the age to which Christian Science, the greatest discovery of all time, has been presented to bless mankind. The responsibility of demonstrating the truths that it teaches and of establishing in ourselves the spiritual sense which Mrs. Eddy describes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 209) as "a conscious, constant capacity to understand God," gives point and purpose to our human experience.
I have had many proofs, through the understanding and application of Christian Science, that everything is possible to God; but I shall never cease to be grateful for one particular experience. Several years ago, while I was riding horseback, my horse became frightened at a passing train and suddenly started to run. I was unseated and dragged for some considerable distance across the prairie. When rescued, I was picked up in an unconscious condition and remained so for several hours. However, with the very efficient help of a Christian Science practitioner I was able to be in my place in the schoolroom the next morning. I suffered no ill effects, although my body was quite bruised for several days. I have been healed also of frequent sick headaches, nervousness, severe colds, and conjunctivitis.
But, above all, I am grateful for the spiritual direction that Christian Science gives to my life; for the knowledge that, as Jesus' parable teaches, whenever one is willing to turn from the husks of mortal mind thinking toward his Father's house, when he is yet afar off good meets him!
