At the time Christian Science was...

From the April 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At the time Christian Science was first presented to me I was very ill, a mental and physical wreck. One would have thought I would be only too willing to accept any means of relief from my misery; instead, I scoffed at Christian Science and refused to look into it.

Finally, after trying all that matter had to offer for relief, in utter despair and as a last resort I asked for help in Christian Science. My thoughts were immediately turned Godward, and I began to know myself as God's image and likeness, spiritual and perfect. I proved beyond any doubt the statement on page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I was healed of nervous prostration and thyroid trouble. I am now enjoying my first real sense of activity. Many times I thought my healing slow, but found that "to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" brought relief.

I wish to express endless gratitude to a most loyal practitioner, who lovingly and with untiring patience helped me on my way. I am grateful to Mrs. Eddy, whose revelation of Truth has taken me from the valley of depression, ill health, and unhappiness to the hilltop of joy, health, and peace. I am also grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the privilege of participating in the activities of the latter.—
