I became interested in Christian Science because of its beautiful and Christlike teaching, and through reading the literature which was brought to me by my sister, who after the doctors could do no more for her was healed of nervous prostration. I soon discovered that it was the same religion which Jesus taught and practiced. I had never before known such peace and satisfaction. I kept on reading the literature, gaining in health and happiness, until one day my eldest son had an attack of stomach trouble to which he had been subject for some time. It was then that I told him about Christian Science. He was very much interested and began reading the literature. We soon purchased our first copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and spent much time reading it. My son was healed through reading this book. From that time on I had no use for material remedies of any kind, as God, through the understanding which Christian Science had given me of Him, was the only physician in our family.
When my little boy was about two years of age I was awakened one night with his coughing, which I knew at once to be the croup. I took him in my arms and began to work for him, knowing that God is his life and that God is All. I continued to work in this way for two hours or longer, and as he seemed to be no better I called one of my daughters to bring me a simple remedy, the same that I had used for the older children. She brought it to me in a spoon and put it on a stand beside me, but I could not bring myself to give it to him. for it had been proved to me that God is man's Life. In a short time the breathing became easier and he went to sleep. The next morning when I saw him running about the house I was most grateful.
When this boy was a few years older he was left alone one evening with his brother, who was ten years older. After they had gone to bed the older boy was taken with toothache and he asked the little fellow to help him. The pain soon disappeared and he fell asleep. The little brother told me the next morning that he knew that God was there and that there was no fear.
