I am very glad to avail myself of the opportunity which our periodicals give of expressing my gratitude for the many benefits, mental, moral, and physical, which I have received since I began the study of Christian Science over nine years ago.
For some years I had suffered from chronic anaemia, sleeplessness, almost constant headache, and various other ills, besides what seemed to me worse than all—wearing anxiety and worry. I constantly took medicine, hoping for relief, but to no purpose. Finally, almost in despair, I asked a friend who was a student of Christian Science if she thought this Science would help me. She replied emphatically, "Of course it will;" and she introduced me to a practitioner, whom I asked for help. But first I begged my friend not to mention the fact that I had asked for help in Science to my friends or family, as I was afraid of ridicule. I attended a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and the practitioner told me she would help me and spoke some words of comfort, which cheered me, although I did not understand much of what she said. In a day and a half I was completely healed of anaemia, with its attendant ills; I slept well, was free from headache, and—to me most marvelous of all—my thought was at peace.
I began eagerly to study this Science, and have found the way growing brighter as I have advanced. Since the first healing I have experienced many others, sometimes with the understanding I have gained of the Christ, Truth, and sometimes with the help of practitioners. Some healings have been rapid, others slower, but I am learning through the latter that, as Mrs. Eddy says (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 11), "Sickness is the schoolmaster, leading you to Christ; first to faith in Christ; next to belief in God as omnipotent; and finally to the understanding of God and man in Christian Science."
