Testimonies of Healing

I did not come into Christian Science...

From the August 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, but through seeking the truth, after studying and investigating different religions and teachings for several years.

Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have been healed of tonsillitis, influenza, ivy poisoning, ptomaine poisoning, measles, and headaches. For the healing of headaches, the thought was taken up that God's ideas are not earth-bound; also, that there are no false concepts to usurp our consciousness or to intrude into our mental homes.

I am most grateful for the healing of heart trouble, for this proved beyond a doubt that it is our wrong thinking which causes physical disorders, and not conditions of matter.

I was in the state of Colorado, at an altitude of seven thousand feet, and very soon I began to suffer with the beating and pounding of my heart; sometimes the beating would cease almost entirely. Through the help of a practitioner the dull aching pain was eased, but the beating and palpitating continued. I finally settled down to work out the problem myself. For one week I worked almost day and night to uncover the error, as it seemed my work to do so. Hereditary beliefs were denied, thoughts of altitude and climate touched upon, but to no avail. Finally, on the last day of the week, just at dusk, a light burst into my consciousness with the revelation that I was unconsciously using terms and healing methods of previous religious teachings, together with Christian Science terms and practice. I then clearly saw the trouble—material thinking and spiritual thinking, oil and water, would not mix. I picked up "The People's Idea of God" by Mary Baker Eddy and turned to page 1, where our Leader speaks of "intellectual wrestling and collisions with old-time faiths, as we drift into more spiritual latitudes," and says, "The beatings of our heart can be heard; but the ceaseless throbbings and throes of thought are unheard, as it changes from material to spiritual standpoints." The Bible tells us of "one Lord, one faith, one baptism." Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 372), "When man demonstrates Christian Science absolutely, he will be perfect." I was healed.

This healing has meant much to me, and has eliminated all desire to look into matter for causation. There is only one cause. God did not make the red dragon or counterfeit; it is nothing: Mind is All. Love is supreme, and will heal every discordant condition by ruling out the wrong thought that is causing the distress.

I am most grateful for Mrs. Eddy's works, in which we find the precious pearls of healing truth; and for one ready for a fuller unfoldment of Christian Science she has provided class instruction, for which I am most grateful, as I have found it invaluable—beneficial in all my daily work. I can truly say that I have really experienced the presence and power of the spirit of Truth and Love, and felt its influence in my life. —
