In loving appreciation of Christian Science and of the unselfish and inspired life of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I wish to express my gratitude. I have had so many reasons to be grateful for Christian Science that it is difficult to single out any one experience. As a child, I was reared in the Christian Science Sunday School and church, and have since become a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and the local branch church. This alone is sufficient reason for gratitude.
However, there is an instance of a healing I experienced over four years ago while traveling that stands out perceptibly because of the instantaneous relief it afforded. My husband and I were going to the west coast and had stopped over for a day or two in Salt Lake City. Upon our arrival, early on Sunday morning, I had every symptom of a severe case of influenza, with its attendant discomforts. My one thought was to reach a Christian Science church in that city. I felt that if I could only get to church I should be healed. To accomplish this, even in a taxi, seemed to me a physical impossibility. But I was so happy to be there that as soon as we had been ushered to our seats a great sense of peace, even the peace that passes human understanding, swept over me. As the service progressed, I realized that I was healed. And I was—completely so, with no return of the difficulty on the entire trip of many weeks.
This is just one of the many proofs of God's care that I have experienced. One summer I was one of a party of six in an automobile when a baseball, thrown accidentally through the windshield, carried hundreds of splintered, jagged, broken pieces of glass with it, showering each of us, and yet injuring no one. We felt this to be only another example of the protection of our loving Father-Mother God.
