Testimonies of Healing

[Original testimony in German]

May my testimony bring to all...

From the August 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

May my testimony bring to all who are weary and heavy-laden a glimpse of light, showing that all things are possible with God, if we cling faithfully and steadfastly to Him. Even before I knew of Christian Science, He often led me, after fervent prayer, out of mental and physical distress.

Christian Science, to which friends had called my attention, came into my life at a time when I was again wandering in seemingly deep darkness. I was anxious and troubled over a beloved child. My nerves and heart were so overwrought that I broke down completely. The Heralds and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which had been given me to read, for the most part I wearily laid aside. I could not grasp the fact that God is Love, thinking that He gave me such a heavy burden to carry. Gradually I learned to understand that all I formerly thought and believed must be given up before I could be ready to recognize through Christian Science that God is Love. Even in my severest trial, when our beloved child left us, and when I, according to human belief, was supposed to be suffering from tuberculosis of both lungs, with which I struggled for seven months, I always knew and felt that our great Father-Mother God would never leave me or forsake me.

During the four years I earnestly sought for the truth my loyalty brought me rich blessings, and in gratitude I acknowledge that "all things work together for good to them that love God." Three years have passed and there is nothing more to be seen of the tuberculosis which many doctors had diagnosed. I have gained more than twenty pounds in weight, and am happy and joyous again. Forgotten are "those things which are behind," and my life's aim is to strive for the highest sense of good. With gratitude I think of the Christian Science practitioner who lovingly helped me; of all the Scientists who were always a model to me; and of our faithful Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who revealed the Christ, Truth, to mankind. In her words I repeat (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 397; Poems, p. 13):
