Testimonies of Healing

I did not take up the study of...

From the February 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I did not take up the study of Christian Science for physical healing, but because it revealed to me the spiritual meaning of the Scriptures. Before learning of Christian Science, I thought there was what I called "a hidden meaning" to the Scriptures; and I asked the minister of the church of which I was then a member if he could tell me how to obtain this "hidden meaning" of the Scriptures, but he did not seem to understand what I wanted, and could give me no satisfactory answer. About two or three weeks later, when I was talking to a friend who was a Christian Scientist, he asked me if I would like some Christian Science literature to read, and I said I should, as I was curious to know just what this Science was. He gave me a Sentinel, and almost every article written in that Sentinel seemed to have been written especially for me. It answered my questions; it revealed to me the hidden or spiritual meaning of the Scriptures. This was in 1910; since then Christian Science has been continually unfolding to my thought the spiritual nature of reality.

Since I commenced the study of Christian Science I have been healed of many discords, among them headache, blood poisoning, and ptomaine poisoning, which was instantaneously healed. At one time I was kicked in the stomach by a large horse. To mortal sense the injury was very serious, but by constantly relying on God, as we are taught in Christian Science, I was healed in three days. I have also been healed of a sprain in my wrist, which had caused me severe pain for many years; it was instantaneously healed through Christian Science.

I am very grateful for the physical healings, but words fail to express the gratitude I feel for the spiritual enlightenment, for the understanding gained that God is, as Mrs. Eddy tells us in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," infinite Mind, Life, Truth, and Love, in whom we live, move, and have our being, and to whom we can look in every need, and never look vainly. I am also very grateful for the help of Christian Science in the home. When sickness or trouble of any kind seems to appear, our great Physician is always present, and He never fails to help us.
