What is Christian Science treatment? Is it not, in part, an acknowledgment and realization of the ever present operation of the law of God, whereby Love's promises to His children are fulfilled? A Christian Science treatment is simple and effective if we but rest in the assurance that God's law is ever in operation, harmoniously governing all that is real.
Sometimes the evidence of the material senses appears to be very persistent. Under the marginal heading "How to treat a crisis," Mrs. Eddy says in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 421), "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him." We need to watch that we do not lose, even for a moment, the clear understanding that the truth is already established, and that the evidence of the material senses is a lie. A treatment reveals the perfect man and destroys false belief about him. The clearer our perception of the truth of being, the stronger will be our faith and the better our understanding of Jesus' words, "When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself."
But what of the times when our declarations seem to be of no avail, when the material senses seem to refuse to yield up their false testimony? Whatever the difficulty may be, however strong and subtle may seem the material resistance to Truth, we can know with confidence and joy that since the truth has infinite penetration and is at-one with omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience, a treatment is the Word of God and nothing can prevent it from doing its holy work. John says, "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." God's Word cannot return to Him void. It carries His mandate, "Let there be light," and uncovers and annihilates all that is unlike Himself.
