In gratitude to God for leading me...

From the February 1932 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In gratitude to God for leading me and mine into Christian Science I give this testimony. Christian Science came to us in an hour of great need. My husband, who had been a manager of an asbestos mine, was stricken down with phthisis. The specialist he consulted told him there was very little hope of recovery, and that he would never mine again. I had for many years been a semiinvalid; our son, we were told, must undergo an operation of the throat; and our little daughter was under the care of specialists for eye and nose trouble.

When I was told what my husband's trouble was, it seemed just too much to be borne; I was desperate with grief and anxiety. It was then that one of our children asked me: "Mother, don't you believe in God? He can make daddy better! Do let us go and ask Him right now." There and then we went and prayed for the recovery of "daddy." I shall never forget the peace and comfort that followed. My mother, who was a great believer in the Bible, asked for a message for my husband. This is what the Bible opened to: "I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the Lord; and I will heal him." We then prayed, and asked if "daddy" would return to his mine work, and this is the answer we got: "Fear not thou, O my servant Jacob, and be not dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid." We were greatly comforted and felt that my husband would indeed be healed; but as it had been such a serious illness we feared that the healing would take a long time.

It was soon after this that we were urged to have our son's throat operated on again. As he had nearly passed on during the first operation, we were very much worried and anxious about him. Then an uncle offered to take him to see a Christian Science friend to have treatment. The boy was instantaneously healed, and came home so uplifted and so filled with the truth lovingly explained by the practitioner that he was able to see the nothingness of chilblains that had been tormenting me for weeks. I was healed within half an hour. We were deeply grateful to the practitioner for this loving help, and asked for treatment for our little daughter's eyes. Within a few days she was able to lay aside the dark glasses which the specialist had said she must wear for at least eight years. Soon after this, again with the loving help of the same practitioner, the child was healed of an abscess in the ear.
