Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science has been my...

From the August 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science has been my only physician for more than twenty-five years, and during that time there have been many healings which have proved its efficacy, as well as many times when I have been protected from untoward experiences. The instant availability of the truth as taught in Christian Science to help in time of need was demonstrated not long ago in my experience in such a positive and convincing way that I feel I must express my gratitude for this healing.

One evening when I was sprinkling the lawn the hose came apart at a coupling, and as I hurried to the faucet to shut off the rush of water, I ran with considerable force into a fine wire clothesline stretched between two trees, which in my haste I had not seen. It struck across one eye and, as I instinctively dropped my head, the eyelid was badly injured and my forehead was cut. The help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked at once, and within a very short time the pain was relieved and a sense of fear quieted, This occurred about six o'clock in the evening, and at seven-thirty, after having dinner, I was able to preside at a meeting lasting several hours and at its conclusion take a night train to a distant city on a necessary business trip. In a few days discharge from the wound stopped, and in a week all evidence had completely disappeared. There was practically no swelling or discoloration, and at no time was my eye bandaged or was any aid other than Christian Science sought or used. My work requires constant use of the eyes, and I was able to use them at all times without discomfort during this experience.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 162), "The indestructible faculties of Spirit exist without the conditions of matter and also without the false beliefs of a so-called material existence;" and again on page 486: "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost. Their reality and immortality are in Spirit and understanding, not in matter, —hence their permanence." The truth contained in these statements surely was demonstrated in this experience, and I cannot adequately express my gratitude for this healing.
