We read in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 342) that Christian Science "raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid." About twelve years ago I was condemned to semi-invalidism for the rest of my days, and had been told by doctors and specialists that unless I had a surgical operation I should not last very long. I had had a series of eight operations within a period of five years on account of severe wounds received during the world war, and I also had a condition which the medical profession called stone in the kidney. When Christian Science found me I was a complete physical wreck, suffering also from acute depression, dissatisfaction, and despair. I was told by several relatives that if I would have Christian Science treatment I could not only be healed without any material means, but could also enjoy continuous good health and strength. At the eleventh hour a Christian Science practitioner was called and help was lovingly given. Results came very quickly; and after a few days I was completely and permanently healed of the smoking habit and of any desire for intoxicating drink.
I soon began to realize the mental nature of all discordant conditions, and that wrong mental states could be corrected by a right understanding of God as divine Mind, and of man made in the image and likeness of this one omnipotent Mind. As this great truth of being began to dawn upon my consciousness, I made rapid strides towards a complete and permanent healing. After having the help of a practitioner for about three months I was completely healed of my bodily ailments and began to experience more harmonious conditions. I was also enabled to live a more active life and to take part in strenuous games and exercises. My acute lameness was gradually disappearing, and I quickly recovered my normal health and strength. No words can express the gratitude I feel for these healings, which have been permanent.
As further evidence of the healing and regenerating power of this glorious truth, I am grateful to be able to record that it was entirely due to Christian Science that I was enabled to pass what seemed to be a very difficult professional examination. This also enabled me to obtain employment, which I have retained.
