I wish to express my gratitude...

From the September 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science, in which I first became interested in 1911. I was living near a man and his wife who were Christian Scientists. The wife would come to me almost daily to talk about this Science, and would give me a copy of the Journal or Sentinel to read. I would read only the articles she pointed out to me and would pass the literature back to her. At this time I did not know what Christian Science was and I did not care to know. This went on for two years and a half. During this time I could not help but remember a little of what she had told me and a little of what I had read. One night I awoke with a hemorrhage of the lungs. Being alone I was filled with fear. My first thought was to call a doctor, but the last doctor I had had said that he would give me a change of medicine, and if that did not help me there was nothing he could do but to ask me to stay out of the night air and to be in the sunshine as much as possible. My second thought was the drug store. But I had tried everything there that had been recommended for lung trouble. Then I thought of God. If He had done so much for others He would help me. The fear left me and I retired again for the night. In twenty minutes I was asleep and slept until late the next morning; and when I awoke I knew I was healed. I have not had any trouble with my lungs since.

Before taking up Christian Science every spring and every fall I had a very bad cold and cough. Each time the cough grew worse until finally it lasted three weeks, day and night. Since taking up Christian Science I have had a few colds, but they were quickly overcome, both with and without the help of a practitioner.

I was healed of a very bad case of influenza in two weeks with the help of a practitioner; also of resentment in a few treatments. I was so overcome with the sudden shock of my mother's passing on, and with the nature of the disease, that my head was drawn considerably forward. I could walk only with great difficulty. I told the practitioner that I did not think I should live long. The sorrow was overcome in one treatment, and the ailment was gradually healed. I have had many other healings, and I thank God daily for this Science. I have not words to express my gratitude for the practitioners and all those who have helped me along the way, and for our beloved Leader.—
