Testimonies of Healing

I wish to give my testimony in...

From the September 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to give my testimony in gratitude to Christian Science and to our beloved Leader for making plain the teachings of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower.

As a result of a major operation, I was facing a second one six years later. The doctor said that I should have to be operated on at once for hernia, which he declared was one of the worst cases he had ever seen. Abscesses had also formed.

Some little time before this a friend of my husband had discussed Christian Science with him, and through his clear declarations of the truth my husband had been healed instantaneously of the tobacco habit, which he had had for some twenty-three years. At this time he also experienced a very quick healing of a sprained ankle, through his own realization of the truths given him by this Christian Scientist. These healings impressed the family very much, and they advised me to try Christian Science rather than the operation. I had a great fear of undergoing this operation, feeling that I should not come through it alive, and yet, knowing nothing of Christian Science, I was fearful to trust myself to its treatment. After many tears and prayers for God's guidance, at the end of three days I was ready to take my stand for Truth; and putting full reliance on God, I was healed in one treatment from a Christian Science practitioner.

During the years since this first healing, I have had many others— some instantaneous, others slower. Among the instantaneous healings were those of severe colds which seemed to come periodically in the head and on the chest. These were many times healed instantaneously through another's work. Among the first proofs that I had of the power of Truth through my own work was that of overcoming warts on my hands.

I should like to express gratitude for the protection which Christian Science affords, not only in the case of sickness, but from accidents. I also feel most grateful for the proofs of protection in business dealings. Christian Science was wonderfully efficient in the healing of grief at the passing on of a loved one; and I cannot begin to tell of the comfort it is to me in meeting the suggestions of loneliness.

Each day I become more grateful for Christian Science. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for the privilege of serving in the Reading Room and Sunday school, for class instruction, and for the continuous good health that I have enjoyed since taking up the study of this Science.—
