Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science is the greatest...

From the February 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science is the greatest blessing that ever came into my life. It found me in a very depressed and discouraged condition, confined to my bed a great portion of the time, suffering with stomach trouble and hemorrhages. I was under the doctor's care constantly for four years, during which time I underwent two serious operations and was preparing for the third one. The family physician had telephoned to the surgeon to make arrangements for me to go to the hospital.

On the same day I received a Christian Science Sentinel, which I began to read. I enjoyed the articles so much that I read them over and over again. It was the "still small voice" of Truth, for it quieted material sense and I began to feel better. When the doctor called, I was so much improved he decided to postpone the operation. I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and read far into the night and all the next day, unwilling to lay this precious book aside for a moment. In two days I was able to be up helping with some of the housework, and I went to the table and ate a meal without fear. This was the first time in four years that my food had not distressed me; in fact I had been living on a starvation diet.

I continued to read, for I was glimpsing a new heaven and a new earth. In a few weeks I was able to go to my first Christian Science lecture. I shall never forget how uplifted I felt. I thought indeed that heaven was at hand. When I returned home that Sunday afternoon I was healed, and was filled with joy. On the following Wednesday I, who had thought I must live an invalid's life, mounted a heavy farm wagon and rode a distance of a mile and a half, then took the streetcar and went to my sister's home to tell her of my healing. On my return home I prepared the evening meal without the least feeling of fatigue. To me it was a joyous day. One by one physical bonds dropped away. The last to yield was a severe condition of constipation of over twenty years' standing, leaving me joyous, free, and eager to know more about this glorious truth.
