In the hope that my experience of healing in Christian Science may bless and help others, I relate the following facts.
I did not come into this Science for physical healing. After studying for about five years, however, while I was engaged in opening a new business, I suffered a severe nervous breakdown, from which I feared I might pass on. My condition was such that I had to retire from my work for a time, but I had made a definite promise to resume duties by a certain Monday. On the previous Friday I returned from a visit to a farm, worse than when I went away. Upon request a Christian Science practitioner came to visit me, and to her I explained the position, remarking how utterly impossible it seemed for me to keep my promise to my employers and return to my work as arranged. Looking above the material evidence to the spiritual facts, she said, "God has given you this work to do, and He has given you the courage and strength with which to do it." This healing message was a savior to me. I returned to my work on the promised day, and while my complete recovery seemed slow, it was sure.
My gratitude to Christian Science is unbounded. It has made true to me the words of John, "Now are we the sons of God," and those of Mrs. Eddy, "Man is not material; he is spiritual" (Science and Health, p. 468) and for this vital revelation my heart wells up in appreciation of all that this incomparable teaching is doing for mankind.— Cape Town, South Africa
