Testimonies of Healing

Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health...

From the February 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 423): "Bones have only the substance of thought which forms them. They are only phenomena of the mind of mortals." I had a distinct proof of this when, on breaking a wrist one day, I turned away from the physical appearance to the spiritual reality, from the mortal sense to divine Mind. I had been in a collision at an ice rink, but was able to pick myself up without anyone knowing I was hurt; and after a few moments—during which time I nearly lost consciousness because of the severe pain—I was given the strength to proceed to my office to keep appointments that had previously been made.

My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, did not notice that there was anything wrong for a few days, until he saw me use only one hand in lifting a heavy scuttle to put coal on the fire. He then insisted on my going to see a surgeon, for although the pain and swelling of the arm and wrist had nearly gone, there was still a little left. He was afraid that the wrist would have to be broken and reset, as it had not been set by a surgeon. After repeated begging on my husband's part I decided, a day or two later, that it would be wise to consent to do as he wished. I knew that there was nothing seriously wrong with my wrist then, as I was able to move it and all my fingers. The surgeon told me that it had been broken in two places—an exceptionally bad break—but it had set and knit together well. He said, "You have done very well, very well indeed," and did nothing to the arm. In a fortnight's time after the accident I was shaking hands with my friends and writing letters, and even a week afterward I signed cheques.

I am indeed grateful for this healing, brought about through the earnest application of Christian Science.—
