Testimonies of Healing

When I first began to study Christian Science...

From the February 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When I first began to study Christian Science I was healed in just a few days of rheumatism and of a kidney condition which was fast developing into Bright's disease.

In September, 1915, I was suffering so much that I was planning suicide, because I felt that I could not go on in this condition much longer. I was losing my sight, hearing, and speech. I had reached a stage where I was afraid to speak to anyone or to have anyone speak to me, for I could hardly answer intelligently. One evening, after retiring about seven o'clock, I was in such pain and fear that I got up out of bed and knelt down and prayed. I seemed to feel right then that I was to get an answer, because I knew I did not need to make long prayers or beg God to heal me. This I had done too often. I felt that all I wanted to say or ask I could do in just a few words, and I did. I said, "Oh, God, let there be an end: let tomorrow be the deciding time, either one way or the other." That was the only way to pray I knew. But God guides our ways. The next day I was led to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I understood about everything I read. It was a revelation to me.

My life, instead of being a life of dread tomorrows, became a life of happy today. The first thing I read in the textbook was on page vii of the Preface, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." After reading this book for a few days I began to feel better; the pain was leaving me. I began to be happy, and in about ten days I realized that I was healed. I was also healed of many other false conditions, one of which was lack, and I can truly say I have since had all I needed. Instead of the fear of losing a job and having to look for another one, I was always led just to where there was another job, another opportunity. This understanding also established me in a business of which I had had no previous knowledge, a business in which I met with a large measure of success from the start.
