Christian Science was brought to our home by a relative when I was a child. When this relative came to visit us and we learned of the remarkable healing which she had experienced through Christian Science, a healing which came after the best efforts of the physicians had failed, we were ready to listen.
We children were interested immediately and began to attend the Christian Science Sunday School and the church services. It was my privilege to be a regular attendant at Sunday school for eight years; and I am most grateful for the help and protection which I now realize were mine as a direct result of this early association with the teachings of Christian Science through the Bible and our textbook. Though my understanding seemed slight, I could not fail to recognize the peace and assurance that came to me when I turned to these books for my help. Homesickness, which seemed to burden me for several months after I first left home to attend college, was overcome through this study. It had seemed so severe that the development of physical illness was feared, and the suggestion was made that I return to my home. When the trouble vanished it was as though a heavy weight had dropped from my shoulders. Later divine Love comforted me during sorrow and healed me of the belief of separation.
Several years ago I was healed of goiter through the faithful work of a Christian Science practitioner. This condition had manifested itself when I was a child and had continued through my college experience, and was a source of both physical and mental discomfort. Shortly before I completed my college course an earnest and urgent suggestion was made by the superintendent of the school which I had formerly attended that I have an operation at the close of the college year—otherwise, this physical condition would interfere with every normal activity which I might attempt, and it would be impossible for me to secure a position as a teacher. The interest was appreciated, but the suggestion was not followed. The teaching position was secured without any difficulty, and later a similar position was obtained in a larger city. There I located a practitioner whom I asked for treatment. The healing was gradual, but the help received during this time in understanding the teachings of Christian Science was encouraging, and I cannot be too grateful for it. Now I began to gain some understanding of this truth which had so often helped me in past experiences, though I had comprehended so little of its meaning. An increased desire for the study of this truth followed— a desire to understand and apply it so that I too might help to prove God's infinite goodness and love, and man's oneness with God. Naturally, the goiter was entirely and permanently healed.
