ON one occasion, when speaking of events to come, Christ Jesus said, "And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled." Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 340,) "One infinite God, good, unifies men and nations; constitutes the brotherhood of man; ends wars; fulfils the Scripture, 'Love thy neighbor as thyself.'"
The one Mind, called God, encompasses His entire creation, and therefore all that is real is united in this one Mind. God is the great parent Mind; all ideas proceed from Him and rest in Mind's protection. Apprehending the sublime fact of one all-embracing divine Love, men and nations can understand and love one another. Is the material concept of country and nationality of any real consequence, since the same divine intelligence is available everywhere, for all, and all must reflect the one Mind, which is God, or Love?
The mortal lie of envy and selfishness circles over lands and peoples to spread hatred and discord, and then evil, like a greedy hawk, would rob and wrong humanity. This is the supposititious activity of mortal mind, the belief in a material world, a mortal creation striving to maintain its own safety and tenure. Reasoning from the standpoint of a material creation and mortal manhood, we divide territory into fixed zones, and accept individual peculiarities and limitation, seemingly unbridgeable. Thus we set up mental boundaries which develop rivalry and make us strangers at heart. Hence, every thought which accepts as real and influential the false concept of life and the imperfections of so-called earthly experience, tends to pull down and divide the nations, and thus aids and abets the devices of mortal mind.
