SCIENTIFIC CONTROL OF BODY

From the April 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A Machine or any mechanical device which could not be easily regulated and controlled, or which frequently broke down or got out of order, would not be considered reliable or very valuable. A watch that either lost or gained time, or stopped entirely, would be of little use to a railroad engineer or an announcer in a radiocasting station. Continuity of accurate and harmonious performance is most desirable in all the things devised for the use of mankind, whether the thing in use be a fountain pen or the modern printing press.

Untold sums of money and untold years of time have been spent by earnest men who have striven to bring about a better manifestation of control, and much of this effort has been directed to gaining a better control of the body. Many persons honestly believe that the mortal body is man, and because of this belief they look to the body to see what are their prospects for health, length of life, or the approach of sickness and death. Because of mortal experience and miseducation, mistaken individuals believe that through medicating, manipulating, or operating upon the mortal body, health may be gained, the body controlled and brought into a state of harmony. In too many instances the looked-for good results have not been achieved, and the disappointed ones have turned away in despair and accepted the human verdict that they were incurable.

Multitudes, through failure to find health and gain control of the body by the use of material means, have turned to God, and with the help of Christian Science have experienced health and harmony which before seemed impossible of attainment. Normal action and harmonious control of the body have been gained by numerous men and women who, before Christian Science came to them, considered themselves hopeless sufferers.
