Testimonies of Healing

It would take many pages to relate...

From the August 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It would take many pages to relate the wonderful demonstrations that have been made in my family through the understanding of Christian Science. I should like to recount a few that remain uppermost in my thought.

The first healing I recall occurred when I was ten years old. My small brother and I were taken ill in the night with ptomaine poisoning. My mother had just taken up the study of Christian Science, so she sat by our beds and read aloud from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. We became so much worse that she asked me whether she should call a doctor or a Christian Science practitioner. I asked for a practitioner. One was called and in less than an hour we were both sleeping soundly. Dating from that time my mother, my brother, and I relied on God exclusively. Bilious attacks which occurred regularly every two weeks were overcome for both my brother and me. All through my years at school the truth was applied to my studies and activities, and everything worked out very harmoniously.

A few years ago I had influenza and was left with what specialists pronounced a serious mastoid infection. At my husband's request two different operations were performed. These did not allay the infection and the doctors were completely at a loss to know what to do. As there was no hope for me we turned unreservedly to Christian Science. In four weeks I returned home and have never been troubled with that ear since. At the same time I was suffering from influenzal neuralgia above the left eye, which had drawn my eye so badly that I could hardly see. This, too, was healed by the truth. How grateful I am to God for this wonderful healing, and to the practitioner who worked so faithfully and against such seeming odds! I now fully realize what Mrs. Eddy meant by not looking on these things as trials but as opportunities to prove God's love; for I certainly did learn a lesson and gained a much deeper understanding of Truth.
