Christian Science was introduced...

From the November 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was introduced into our home over fifteen years ago and was studied for a number of years, although I was too young to appreciate it at that time. I had my first real opportunity to prove the infallibility of this great truth when I entered high school. In the midst of what seemed to be a healthy condition, the very opposite was uncovered. Our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has written in Science and Health (P. 540), "The muddy riverbed must be stirred in order to purify the stream." At this time it was natural to call for the aid of a Christian Science practitioner, which my parents permitted me to do. I have since felt the wisdom of this decision, although at that time little consideration was given to it other than as a necessary step away from my ailments.

During this period I missed six weeks of schooling, much of the time being spent in bed; and althought I had no medical examination, every symptom of appendicitis was evident. It is interesting to look back and see that when this ailment was destroyed, another immediately appeared, and so continued one after another until demonstration upon demonstration proved my right to a healthy state of existence. I was always graded low in school, and during my courses I was conditioned twice. Here the practitioner continued to guide me by reversing my outlook, pointing out that I possessed all intelligence, because I reflected God, Mind. It then followed that I must give out or express intelligence rather than absorb knowledge. I returned to school and was able to enter recitation immediately. At the end of the semester I was among the six highest pupils in class after missing over one third of that term. Morning after morning during my four years at high school I declared the truth and continued to grow, completing the work as an honor student.

I have since had numerous demonstrations with employment, which began with a single forward step. I spent all the money I had in purchasing a new Bible and a pocket-size Science and Health, without knowing from where other funds were coming. When I returned home a job was there waiting. Since that time I have had various changes and promotions. It is sufficient to say that most of these came about with very little effort and some without solicitation.
