"O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things." How greatly we can rejoice that these wonderful words contain the same truth today as at the time they were sung by the Psalmist! And we cannot be grateful enough to the dear Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, for giving anew to mankind this seemingly lost good which our Master, Christ Jesus, also taught and proved. I too should be very thankful, for I have had the privilege of coming to know this truth.
As a child I suffered from attacks of epilepsy, which became more and more severe from year to year as I grew older. We had a good deal of medical treatment, for my dear parents wanted to do everything to make me well again; but it was all in vain. Then, several years ago, a kind acquaintance called our attention to Christian Science. We at once purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, read it, and studied it. But for a long time this condition would not yield. So we turned to a practitioner, whose explanations led me to the spiritual understanding which enabled me to master this stubborn error. I kept holding to Jesus' words, which the practitioner wrote in one letter, "This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting." Prayer was here to be understood as the need to gain and realize more of the truth, and fasting meant giving error no further sustenance, that is, completely starving it out of thought.
Today I can say that I have been healed by this truth and am able to carry on my daily affairs. Also I should like to express here my thanks to the practitioner who so lovingly and patiently helped me.—Täbingen über Rottweil, Germany.
