Since I became interested in Christian Science about six years ago, I have had many proofs of God's healing power through the application of this demonstrable truth, and I gratefully bear witness to the many blessing it has brought into my life.
During a time of great anxiety, which continued over a period of many months, I developed an acute colon disorder, which later became chronic. I had been in the care of doctors and specialists for this so-called colitis the greater part of twenty years, and was already much discouraged, when more serious symptoms developed, and advice was sought at a well-known sanatorium. Here, while I was under the supervision of the best medical opinion and skill which was obtainable, a major operation and four months of treatment failed to bring permanent relief. It was after this experience, while I was utterly disheartened, that overwhelming sorrow was suddenly added to my affliction. In my despair I turned to God for help, praying earnestly to be shown a way out of my tribulation. Christian Science was a direct answer to this prayer.
The first thing Science did for me was to give me a religion I could accept in its entirety, and through it I learned that I had been as much in bondage to false beliefs as if I had been in chains. I learned that a great deal of what I considered important in life had no value, and that all healing, of whatever nature, comes through seeking first the kingdom of God. Through my understanding of God as infinite Love and ever present, and of man's true relationship to Him, my thinking was completely revolutionized, purged of fear, grief, and of the old belief in the importance of physical symptoms.
