"BE FRUITFUL, AND MULTIPLY"

From the March 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it." What a stirring call rings out in this glorious mandate of divine Mind, rousing the student of Christian Science to rise to his true, spiritual activity! It awakens thought from the indulgence of apathy, indifference, or resistance to Truth, to the realization of the cloudless joy and dominion experienced through spiritual thinking.

Contemplating this fiat of divine Mind to man helps us to see how to obey the requirements later laid down in the Ten Commandments. For if we would be "fruitful, and multiply," God must be loved and obeyed as the one supreme Mind and Principle of man, and our neighbor must be loved as ourself. The real man must be seen, loved, and honored as the perfect and complete expression of the all-inclusive, tender Father-Mother, God. There is no room for belief in any graven image of temporal power, lust, hatred, or fear, as we rise to obey this call to thought and action. Unselfed love, reflecting the divine; steadfast loyalty to our real selfhood, fetterless and free, are the necessary qualifications for this increase of good in our lives.

It is consistently proved, through the understanding of the inspired teachings of Christian Science, that the creation of the all-knowing and omniactive Mind is and always has been perfect. It is, then, our undeviating acknowledgment and application of this grand verity of man's full expression of Mind's infinite qualities, here and now, that multiplies good in our experience.
