IMPERISHABLE STRENGTH

From the March 1939 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In these strenuous times and rapidly progressive days, more and more emphasis is placed upon the necessity of keeping physically fit if one would succeed in any line of endeavor. Whether in the business world, in the recreational field, or in social contacts—in fact, in any and every manner of human endeavor— ability and the strength to carry on are deemed of great importance. And many are the aids and remedies offered to mankind, guaranteed to promote or restore health and strength to those in need.

It is, however, evident even to the most casual observer that the errors of sense are not permanently removed by the use of material panaceas, for discord and debility, in one form or another, stubbornly continue to recur in the experience of mankind. A progressive healing step in the elimination of discord will be taken when it becomes more generally recognized that every material experience is but the objectification of material thinking. Thought being the basis of all action, thought processes are externalized. Acceptance of this fact is showing humanity that in looking to material ways and means for relief from its ills, it is attempting the impossible—that of healing by material methods the inharmony which mortal thinking has produced. Through this very futility men are being led to seek and find a higher basis of thought and action, and so attain a truer consciousness of health and well-being.

Through the study of Christian Science, given to the world by Mary Baker Eddy, all may learn how release from the bondage of evil may be found, and spiritual harmony attained. This Science declares the spiritual or true facts regarding all things; and as these truths are assimilated, improved conditions, the "signs following," will very naturally be experienced in human affairs. This is because Christian Science appeals solely to thought and reason. In other words, thought becomes spiritualized by the study and application of its rules. Thus all may learn about life in God and acquire a demonstrable understanding of God, divine Principle, whose law governs the one spiritual creation.
