My heart is filled to overflowing with gratitude for the blessings that have come to my family and me through the study and application of Christian Science, as taught by Mary Baker Eddy in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and her other writings.
I was reared in the Lutheran faith, and from my earliest childhood loved the Bible, especially the New Testament. The life of Christ Jesus and his many simple parables, by which he taught humanity to live aright, have always been a source of inspiration to me. However, not until I became a student of Christian Science was I able to grasp their spiritual significance in revealing man's relationship to his Maker.
I came to Christian Science because of my great need of physical healing. The physicians had told me that I had a cancer of the stomach, and that an operation was imperative. My father had passed on with this ailment some time before, so I concluded, because of my strong belief in hereditary laws, that this would necessarily be my lot. I did not submit to the operation, but spent years in suffering and on a diet of milk and crackers. Finally, in my extremity, I turned to Christian Science, which had been presented to me five years before that.
