"Awareness," in general usage, is knowledge or consciousness of physical things, conditions, or designs. There is, moreover, a spiritual awareness of God's creation, of good. God, good, is aware of or has an intimate knowledge of His creation. In other words, the good which is God, knows and is spiritually aware of His children, never ignorant of what He creates. Good, therefore, is divine substance, intelligence, power, all-action. Instead, then, of granting the claim of animal magnetism that evil possesses all or any of the qualities of existence, we realize that the only real existing attributes are qualities of good—the only action, good action; the only Being, God; and the only seat of intelligence, the good Mind or the Mind which is good. All the condition of real existence, then, is spiritual awareness of God.
Mortal mind would endeavor to convince one that his efforts are of no value; that evil is powerful, and that he is more dominated by it than he is subject to good. In other words, mortal mind suggests that evil is natural, and that good is accidental in its occurrence. This is not true, for God created man to show forth His bounty, to express His kindness. Because of this fact, man knows no false belief—has no sense of evil. Hence ever-active good holds man in harmony.
In giving the spiritual meaning of "Japhet," one of the Bible characters, Mary Baker Eddy wrote (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 589), "A type of spiritual peace, flowing from the understanding that God is the divine Principle of all existence, and that man is His idea, the child of His care."
