ERROR HAS NO HISTORY

From the January 1943 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the study of Christian Science we learn the unreal nature of sin, sickness, and death—all error. The belief in their reality must be eradicated from our consciousness if we are to be free from physical disability. Healing occurs under this treatment as the nothingness of error is recognized, and the allness and reality of Spirit, God, and His creation are realized.

That healing of so-called incurable diseases has occurred in many instances is proof of the availability of these basic facts. Testimonies of healing of all manner of diseases and discordant conditions are given in Wednesday evening meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist, and in the weekly and monthly periodicals printed by The Christian Science Publishing Society in Boston, Massachusetts. All these testimonies bear witness to the eradication of error from human thought and experience through the spiritual power revealed in the Scriptures, but hidden under a material interpretation until raised from obscurity by Mary Baker Eddy's discovery of Christian Science, given to mankind in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

In the aforementioned textbook Mrs. Eddy makes this statement (p. 466): "Truth is intelligent; error is non-intelligent. Moreover, Truth is real, and error is unreal. This last statement contains the point you will most reluctantly admit, although first and last it is the most important to understand." The unreal status of evil must be comprehended in order that good may be realized in demonstration. The demonstration of good—health, purity, sinlessness, and the like—is attained by replacing the belief in the reality of error with the true knowledge of the eternal perfection of Spirit and Spirit's idea, or God and man. In this true reasoning we steadfastly affirm that the real man is and always has been the perfect reflection or expression of God.
