I was led to Christian Science after deep, conscientious prayer at a time when I was greatly in need of physical healing. The doctors had diagnosed the condition as seven impacted vertebrae, the effect of my being thrown from a horse. The medical profession had failed utterly to bring about the healing or even an improved condition. Finally a prominent surgeon of one of the leading hospitals in Chicago suggested a surgical operation whereby pieces of bone would be inserted to support the spine. He said it would be dangerous and at best would leave an abnormal condition, and he admittedly was reluctant to perform the operation.
Until this time it had not occurred to me that complete healing might not ultimately take place, but I began to realize that God alone had power to heal me. In answer to earnest prayer a copy of The Christian Science Journal came into my possession. From it I selected the name of the nearest practitioner. I had never heard of her before, but I have since come to realize that I was divinely led in my selection, for through this practitioner's clear understanding of the infinite law of God, good, and her unfaltering allegiance to divine Principle, I was healed in a comparatively short time. Over a number of years this same faithful practitioner has so exemplified the Christ-teaching that I have come to see more clearly how to live the truth. For this I owe God endless praise and gratitude.
I should also like to express the inestimable love I feel for our great Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. I am grateful that even when I knew little about her or what she had done for mankind, I regarded her name with respect. The better I understand her writings and the magnitude of her works, the greater are my love and appreciation for her and the greater is my desire to follow her teachings faithfully.
