My first healing through Christian Science was of an internal exopthalmics stone goiter, after I had been under the care of skilled physicians and specialists without relief over a period of thirteen years. Physicians agreed that there was nothing that could be done for me, and the outlook was most disheartening and hopeless. Death indeed at times would have seemed a welcome alternative, but I had an only child, a daughter who had not been well from birth and who doctors had said could not live, and I felt it my duty to do all I could for her, even though my efforts in her behalf seemed to be fruitless. When conditions had reached a point of desperation, a friend called at our home, and after listening to our story she recommended that we take up Christian Science.
Up to this time I had heard only unfavorable comments on this subject, but as presented it appeared quite different to me from the way it had formerly; in fact it brought a ray of hope to an otherwise hopeless condition. At this time I was scheduled for a hospital experience, and for a few days considered whether to go to the hospital or take up Christian Science. I prayed for guidance, and as I did so error suggested that though I had prayed all my life I could not recall a single time when my prayers had been answered. After I had pondered the matter for several days, the thought came to me that the only way I could ever know whether Christian Science was the truth or not, as the friend had said it was, would be to take the steps she recommended and await results. So with considerable doubt regarding its desirability I called a practitioner.
Much to my surprise I received immediate help, and in a period of ten days I was completely and permanently healed. That was twenty five years ago, and there never has been the slightest return of the trouble. My daughter's physical difficulties vanished into nothingness without specific treatment, but as the natural results of an improved mental outlook brought about through my healing, through prayer, earnest study, and joyous acceptance of and gratitude for the revealed truth.
