It has been my privilege to have had the benefits of Christian Science since early childhood and for this I shall always be grateful to our Father-Mother God. The truth of being has unfolded naturally, and as a result my childhood was a very sweet and healthful one, and I never experienced any so-called children's diseases.
Mary Baker Eddy, our revered Leader, states in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 62), "The entire education of children should be such as to form habits of obedience to the moral and spiritual law, with which the child can meet and master the belief in so-called physical laws, a belief which breeds disease." I firmly believe that the health and harmony I knew were due to "obedience to the moral and spiritual law," as taught in Christian Science.
Sunday school was a source of joy to me and many of the lessons I learned there have remained with me during the intervening years. I remember well having learned the definition and true import of the word "substance" as found in Science and Health (p. 468): "Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance, as the Scriptures use this word in Hebrews: 'The substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' " This concept of true substance has enabled me to see things in their true light, and thereby overcome a sense of chaotic thinking.
