"Every law of matter or the body, supposed to govern man, is rendered null and void by the law of Life, God." This beautiful sentence on page 380 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was brought to my attention by one of our faithful practitioners at a time of great need, and has been a great blessing in handling many problems. When our first son was born it was believed that he had so many complications that he could not live. However, the practitioner knew that "with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27), and the child was quickly and wholly healed. The child had been born at home, and all was worked out in harmony. He has been normal in every respect and is advancing in his schoolwork.
At the birth of our second son, there were problems which threatened to alter our harmonious plans, but each problem was met immediately with the aid of a practitioner, and the experience was one of peace and love. We have had many beautiful demonstrations of the healing work in Christian Science with our small son. When he was several months old he was healed of a serious condition of pneumonia. Upon request by loved ones, we had the baby examined by a physician to determine whether or not he had a broken rib, as he seemed to have much pain there. The physician named it pneumonia and said the child must go to the hospital within the hour or he could not survive for more than twenty-four hours, and even at that his recovery was not sure.
We took him home and immediately called a practitioner. She could not be reached right away, so we did our work as well as we knew how to do it, and read and sang aloud to him until we got in touch with the practitioner. She assured us that all was well and that in God "we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). We put our trust in these great truths. The pain left almost immediately, and the child responded quickly to Christian Science treatment. Within three days he was eating normally and playing again. Many of the so-called children's diseases have been quickly healed through the application of Christian Science and the loving help of a practitioner.
