I wish to express my gratitude for...

From the November 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to express my gratitude for Christian Science and for our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who made this truth available to us. Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have grown to know that, no matter what difficult experiences I may have, all problems can be eliminated by the understanding that, as God's expression, I can no more be identified with those difficulties nor experience them than can God.

Mrs. Eddy writes in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 5), "Wholly apart from this mortal dream, this illusion and delusion of sense. Christian Science comes to reveal man as God's image, His idea, coexistent with Him— God giving all and man having all that God gives." And we learn to know that the most precious thing God gives is an understanding of Himself and of man as His expression. That understanding is man's birthright and must be claimed by us.

I wish to tell of a healing of grief that is outstanding in my experience. A telegram from the War Department announced the death of my youngest son, a Marine paratrooper, in the initial invasion of the Solomons. No other member of my family is actively interested in Christian Science, and I realized that this had to be worked out alone with God. I knew that God is infinite wisdom, infinite Love, and that His tender, loving, constant care is holding all His sons intact, unchanged, safe "in the secret place of the most High." I knew that my son was still in God's care, having an uninterrupted sense of Life. I had no sense that his life had been "cut off in its prime." as the saying goes; or that the good qualities he manifested were at an end, for the Bible tells us (Rev. 14:13), "Their works do follow them."
