One winter I was a hundred miles from Wednesday evening testimony meetings. This led me to a greater appreciation of the testimonies in our periodicals, and gave me the impetus to express my thankfulness for Christian Science. The teachings of Christ Jesus, as interpreted by Mary Baker Eddy, have blessed, protected, and healed me. For this great heritage I am sincerely grateful.
For a very short time, at the age of six or seven years, I was a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School. By the time I reached high school, however, I had drifted away from its teachings and was constantly being doctored. Nevertheless the seed of Truth had been planted.
One night I awoke, feeling paralyzed with pain. A whisper for help brought my mother to the bedside. She asked whether she should call a doctor or a Christian Science practitioner. I chose Christian Science. Before my mother returned to my room, the agony was replaced by complete freedom. Truth had removed the difficulty which a previous operation had failed to do. In the fourth chapter of Hebrews (verse 12) we read, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." After this proof of God's care I sought Christian Science to meet my human and spiritual needs. Pneumonia, scarlet fever, colds, athlete's foot, what was called the "seven-year itch," impetigo, fainting spells, an eye condition requiring glasses, a serious heart attack, and other evils have been healed without any medical aid.
