So many healings have occurred in our family as a result of Christian Science that I could not relate them all. I was a practicing dental hygienist when this Science was called to my attention through my father's healing of hernia.
I should like to tell of a healing I experienced in the summer of 1943. One evening while canning, I removed some jars from the oven to tighten the covers. The first jar I touched exploded in my face, with great force releasing the contents. I ran outdoors to be alone and declare the truth. The pain and the inquiries of my family being insistent, I walked quickly to the home of a neighbor, a friend and practitioner. She came out and walked with me, and we declared the truth audibly and silently. Eventually we felt I should go home to bed and to sleep. My family were very co-operative and did not turn on any light but the light of Truth. At first it seemed impossible to sleep as my nostrils were too swollen to permit breathing, but after my husband and I had talked awhile I lay down and slept immediately. I awakened shortly to find every trace of pain had vanished and it did not return. I thanked God and slept all night.
The injury was apparent, but such good protective work was done that few questions were asked. The first day or two I feared I might be scarred, but the practitioner calmly assured me that if I held to the truth I should not be scarred. I clung to the truth in the fourteenth and fifteenth verses of the eleventh chapter of Job. Exactly one week from the time the explosion occurred I called at the practitioner's home to thank her. When she saw me we both wept for joy. No trace remained of the severe burn which a week before had covered most of my face.
