Christian Science is the demonstrable law of God, which is effectual and irresistible in its operation, and is definitely consistent and wholly spiritual in every statement and in all its operations.
In the study and application of this spiritual Science one does not confine himself to a mere perusal of words or to the memorizing and repetition of favorite statements. Such methods would have a tendency to lead one away from the potency of Christian Science into the use of materially mental processes, or human reasoning about material effects. The quoting of passages from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, without spiritually understanding their message, might lead one to "vain repetitions" and "much speaking," against which Jesus warned his followers.
There has been an inclination on the part of some students to rely almost wholly for healing upon the frequent, and possibly mechanical, repetition of "the scientific statement of being" by Mrs. Eddy, given on page 468 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This scientific statement is in truth definite, comprehensive, and spiritual, and all the teachings of Christian Science are built around it and are consistent with it.
